MAGICAL CEREMONIES
CLOTHING AND IMPLEMENTS FOR THE MAGICIAN
What to wear in the Magical Temple. It is advisable to wear a separate item for temple working. This can be a particular shirt or jumper. However, a robe does consolidate your mental attitude. In the OCS we used a plain white linen robe, simply made where one size fitted almost everyone. Basically, it was a wrap round style of sheeting robe. A cord was used then to hold the robe closed. Members could also wear a sash of grade with appropriate symbols relevant to their grades.
If you refer to the Photo Album page from titles at top of these web pages, you can find a link to Flickr (a photographical site) where the sash is illustrated along with other relevant items. For instance, a clear view of the wand I used. It was about 18” long made from hardwood dowel and sanded to a taper. Letters on its stem are visible. For some reason, the wand emitted an air blast from its working end. I have idea at all why, other than the fact that it was given to me by an experienced magician who no longer used it.
My colleague Robert Turner and myself each also had a more elaborate and more detailed robe. Mine being predominantly dark blue, while Robert’s was dark crimson symbolised elemental forces, appropriate to the leading roles we both took during ceremonies.
For footwear in the temple, I acquired a pair of slippers which I painted with gold enamel paint. The Flickr photographs also show the lotus wand (derived from The Golden Dawn) which we used occasionally in our temple.

Bring in the summer, gaily decked as any bride

Death revived in Life. Now vegetation will flourish

Find a position of quietness and comfort, still the mind - bed before sleep is good for this exercise- and recite the following phrases. Then, after a short pause, follow the suggested visual images, perhaps taking a paragraph at a time.
“In timeless whirls of movement, in echoes of tinkling petals, a vortex of regeneration flows through evolving patterns of symmetry. Listen to the pulse of the earth as it breathes awakenment and healing. Take the path of the mountain top and draw up the force into your being and let it circle throughout your self.
Float on the wings of time in peace, yet with a determination to reach out into the universe of time and space until a diamond like sparkle of vitality infuses your being with harmony.
Hold yourself still throughout the journey and think of the balance of harmony being restored within your body. Use words of welcome and be strong in all your actions as the colours of the water lilies sparkle in the rising dawn and reflect sparkling jewels of light around you.”
Return in peace not forgetting thanks to any being or forces which you have been aware of.

1.Behold, I face the Pillar of Earth!
I stand in the Kingdom of Earth. In the green fertile valley, surrounded by the Glories of the Kingdom that is Crowned and ever raised up. The Mysteries of the Enclosed Garden are yielded up to my sight, and the Door of the Ivory Tower is open unto me.
2.Before me grows the lily and the Rose. The open flower is the receptacle unto the Spiritual Forces and Powers in the Earth by ADONAI
(Pick up candle,, go North.)
3.Behold the Light and Fire of God in the north.
( Take incense to north)
4. The wafting of fragrant air in the north
(Take salt to North)
5.Behold the Salt of Wisdom that drives away darkness.
(Take chalice to North)
6. Behold, the Waters that are above are akin to the Waters below
(Drawn the sign of spirit Descending in North) Vibrate:-

1a. PRACTICAL MEDITATIONS
These meditative exercises are the next best thing to practical rituals. You will need an exercise book to record your thoughts.
1. Picture yourself drifting along a stream where marigolds bloom gold in the clear air. Birds sing, water laps and trickles around you. Peace calms you.
From a distant tower (faintly showing above the grassy banks) music sounds, plaintiff and mournful. It reminds you of a lament marking an anniversary of a battle.
Now a golden arrow appears overhead in the sky, winging past like a vapour stream from an aeroplane. It whistles softly as air is pushed aside. A second one follows, but from its tail drops a shower of golden raindrops that crystallise into petals. Let one fall into your hand and turn into a cross of jewels.

2. Be seated before a large palace, eastern in style. A golden dome is central, gleaming and glistening in the sun. Listen to its vibration . It will tell you much.

3. A crystal river flows down a dark green hill side. The water, pure and clear, contains patterns within its surface. Look into them and dream.

4. A mirror hangs from the wall. Golden light fills its centre, expanding slowly outwards to crystallise into a cloud of radiance. Speak softly and let your thoughts ask the aura for guidance, answers to questions and queries about your future.

NB. Thought and effort will produce results. You may well develop useful spiritual contacts by performing these exercises at different times.

2. PSYCHIC SELF DEFENCE
There are times when it is necessary to clear the psychic areas around your dwelling place, area of work or your own mental aura. The following condensed version of more involved ceremonies uses symbolism appertaining in particular to the sword. Alternatively any cutting tool such as a sword, knife or if you are a diy aficionado, then an electric jigsaw (more manoeuvrable than a hand held circular saw) can be visualised. The overall affect is similar in each case.
Still and purify your mind whilst in contemplative mood. If you know of the Lesser Pentagram Ritual, or the version published in my book, Dare To Make Magic, perform this. Then if you feel capable of a mental version of the following sequence, may I suggest lying totally relaxed on a flat surface such as your bed – very useful if the ritual is before night time’s slumber.
Imagine that you are surrounded by a dome of an indeterminate substance, but one into which every adverse thought, antagonistic gesture or everything which is wrong with your life at present has been absorbed . Feel trapped by this cover, even though your awareness knows full well that the real universe is outside its restricting environment and moreover that higher sources of energy, awareness, spirituality are desperately waiting to reach into your surroundings to blast all inertia and opposition into oblivion.
Now utter the following. “Let the Radiant Glory of Vibrating Light cut through the darkness and send the glowing jewels of evolving humanity to protect me from danger” Visualise yourself cutting a cross in the top of the covering dome with whichever implement you choose and as the cross is cut see the dome shrivel from the effect of incoming light.
Say “Hail to all that is good in this universe and throughout the realms of Time and Space. May the force of Radiance ever shimmer through my aura with is protective force and vitality.”
Imagine your self surrounded by diamonds of light that weave protective patterns around your reclining form wrapping you in a sparkling effervescence of light. Mentally push from you all that has threatened your way of life and your thought structures. Relax and let your mind dwell on whatever thoughts may arise.
Finally say,” Let the coils of the dragon vibrate with the energy of evolution as I strive towards the light of Radiance.”
If you wish to physically perform the ritual, the only difference is that you will stand in your magical place and the sword, knife or whatever you use will by raised over your head as you make the shape of the cross.

3. THE CONSTRUCTION OF A MAGICAL TEMPLE.
From the archives of the Fraternity of the Silent Voice.

In the centre will be an altar. Around its base will be drawn a golden circle, clearly marked with a black outline. The altar shall fit exactly inside this and its feet or supports should be kept clear of the circle itself.
At each corner of the room shall be a golden hexagram within which are the candles, each of equal size and length. They shall be backed by dark cloth to make their effect more noticeable to the physical eye.
Around the walls shall be the emblems of time and space. (If you are not aware of these, use some of the time and space rituals on this website for inspiration, or failing this, then perhaps the rose cross is a useful symbol) A golden cloud should be drawn over the eastern symbol. In the west, a golden equal armed cross shall be used. A garland of flowers can be placed near this when available.
The west is also the direction from which we enter in some ceremonies and so you could imagine a lilac sentinel in that quarter. (nb. The we refers to entities and force forms from inner planes.) The south is to be visualised as a glowing flame reaching up to the sky and throwing a shadow back beyond its influence. This can be symbolised by holding a candle high up to the quarter when you first consecrate. On the wall see a flame liked drawing symbolising the purifying fire.
The north is where you will place a drawing of our ‘Mystic one’ and a bell might also be symbolically placed there. (nb The Mystic One is again a figure and entity from Time and Space rituals. – experimentation with such rituals will link you to the necessary contacts.)
On the left and right of the altar have a candle midway on each side. The water vessel is on the left side far corner and incense sticks to the right. On the near centre of the altar place a bowl of clear liquid as a crystal.
This is all the equipment you need. When entering the temple go always first to the east and make the sign of Light in Extension. Now turn back to the altar and while other initiates take up their positions, light the candles. (Those in the quarters will already have been lit.) Only the high priest will actually move to the east. Now you are ready to begin the ceremony. It may be advisable to use any key words you know from Time and Space rituals and to also speak to the other members present about your purpose.
It should be obvious that no connection exists between this style of ritual and those of The Golden Dawn and similar organisations. However these ceremonies when, performed with effort and dedication are very effective and meditation afterwards can provide important links to inner plane contacts.
4. A PRAYER BOTH FOR ILLUMINATION AND FOR WHEN DANGER IS PRESENT
If performed in a temple, make usual preparations for a simple ceremony.
Say, “Guide me, Great ones from the Sceptre Lands. Let me see the light as it flashes from the depths of space.
Enlighten my mind and purify my heart so I will be fit to withstand the Light as it emanates from the First.
Give me detachment from my physical limitations and may I, by the grace of the spiritual forces, work for peace and harmony within my world of existence. I shall bring nothing to bear but the will and love of God the eternal creator. Light is life for life is God.
Please open the gates so that light will descend, but also purge and purify me lest I also, am destroyed. I know only of light as reflected by the silver blade of the sword as it traverses the realms of Time and Space. As I serve the light, all I ask in return is that the light will illuminate my mind in safety
From the depths of space the light shall strike. Hear the wrath of Silence”
This can also be performed as a meditative ritual, perhaps in bed before sleep. In this instance visualise around you a mental temple and draw on your forehead the rose cross. After any successful ritual, it is good to thank any forces or entities that have attended.

5.THE PORTAL OF THE ADEPTS
This is a means of communication that as society and time have evolved, so has this procedure.
1.Stand still and quiet and face the East. Hold your arms out in a cross shape and project your mind out through your forehead, into deep space.
2. The vision and imagination of stars will tune your mind to distant communication. Try and visualise a thin golden light travelling through space.At this stage it does not matter to where you project it. Just spend a while in practicing your visualisation.
3.At the end of your projected light, sense it change dimensions – perhaps into an artificial planet where people move, communicate and move around.
4. Try and keep the light projection empowered by your own mind and reasoning. After a while let your mind venture along the light flow but, rather as though you are on a train, keep within its confines even if they broaden out occasionally.
5. Pause occasionally and try to sense whatever you pass or whatever impulses may be flowing into you.
6. Say,” Let the glory of radiance ever radiate my being with knowledge and wisdom. Let my mind become aware of different dimensions of consciousness and other means of existence.”
7.Relax your arms, maybe sit if it helps, and become still more receptive. Be aware of Time and Space dimensions and beings. Take long steady breaths as you absorb radiations and incoming influences from afar.
8. Endeavor to change your mental attitude and almost feel like a vessel travelling through space. Feel your mind expanding and acknowledge whatsoever you may contact. Use what ever power names or means of adoration you are aware of.
9. If you feel you have travelled sufficiently, slow down and stop. Stay awhile wherever your mind is. Praise and thank those who safeguard you and wish to communicate with you in the symbolism of the jewels and the vortex of light.
10.After a while retrace your steps. Be aware of any inspiration you have received. Think on this and use this knowledge again on another occasion. Retrieve always the cord that links your inner being to this new awareness.

This can also be performed as a meditative ritual, perhaps in bed before sleep. In this instance visualise around you a mental temple and draw on your forehead the rose cross. After any successful ritual, it is good to thank any forces or entities that have attended.

5.THE PORTAL OF THE ADEPTS
This is a means of communication that as society and time have evolved, so has this procedure.
1.Stand still and quiet and face the East. Hold your arms out in a cross shape and project your mind out through your forehead, into deep space.
2. The vision and imagination of stars will tune your mind to distant communication. Try and visualise a thin golden light travelling through space.At this stage it does not matter to where you project it. Just spend a while in practicing your visualisation.
3.At the end of your projected light, sense it change dimensions – perhaps into an artificial planet where people move, communicate and move around.
4. Try and keep the light projection empowered by your own mind and reasoning. After a while let your mind venture along the light flow but, rather as though you are on a train, keep within its confines even if they broaden out occasionally.
5. Pause occasionally and try to sense whatever you pass or whatever impulses may be flowing into you.
6. Say,” Let the glory of radiance ever radiate my being with knowledge and wisdom. Let my mind become aware of different dimensions of consciousness and other means of existence.”
7.Relax your arms, maybe sit if it helps, and become still more receptive. Be aware of Time and Space dimensions and beings. Take long steady breaths as you absorb radiations and incoming influences from afar.
8. Endeavor to change your mental attitude and almost feel like a vessel travelling through space. Feel your mind expanding and acknowledge whatsoever you may contact. Use what ever power names or means of adoration you are aware of.
9. If you feel you have travelled sufficiently, slow down and stop. Stay awhile wherever your mind is. Praise and thank those who safeguard you and wish to communicate with you in the symbolism of the jewels and the vortex of light.
10.After a while retrace your steps. Be aware of any inspiration you have received. Think on this and use this knowledge again on another occasion. Retrieve always the cord that links your inner being to this new awareness.
